Course Details

At UCMAS,
specially trained teachers guide groups of students on two hands method of handling abacus. The two hands technique of using abacus is actually a step towards higher level of Mental Arithmetic calculation. Mental arithmetic is connected to the ability to visualize. Children are taught to picture the abacus in their minds. Figures to be calculated are visualized as beads on abacus opposed to numerals. A bead is a picture while a number is not. It is easier to visualize the bead and calculate.

This technique is very effective in performing basic arithmetic calculations such as addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. This method incorporates a "picture upon picture" concept. The calculation overlaps - that means when one picture is in mind, another picture is placed on top - this is the least painful way for fast and accurate Mental Arithmetic calculation. UCMAS trained children can mentally add 10 columns of 12 digit numbers within 30 seconds normally, while a normal adult won't be able to even read the numbers in one minute.

UCMAS, however, is not so simple. It's not about learning to be a master in mental mathematics and does not end up being limited to conquering the fear of mathematics but it is more about making the child use the brain to its maximum potential. All through our growing years, we hear this harangue about the ineffectiveness of using just one side of our brain, be it the left or the right. Despite proof to the contrary, education systems in most of the countries still continue to measure a child's intelligence by their academic results. In order to explore and develop the potentialities of human brain fully, many physiologists and brain scientists have been studying ways to develop the function of right brain further.

Right brain - the seat of intelligence, contributes in a large measure to increase learning ability, concentration, perceptual capabilities and imaging skills. UCMAS is the result of such research. Through constant exploration and practice children get the concept of numbers, it is only a beginning with numbers, soon all information is absorbed and processed faster in the mind. Arithmetic is extremely important for building up a solid academic foundation for children. UCMAS Mental Arithmetic, an internationally well-known and powerful brain development program is created to help children develop their latent mental power at an early age.

UCMAS aims to develop human intellect, through improved mind concentration, imagination, and revolutionize the field of child education. The Course structure and its levels at UCMAS–Bangladesh are at par with UCMAS worldwide curriculum. Lessons are structured in term or level wise; each term consists of 24 hours training spread into 12 classes in 3 months period. A child has to attend at least one class for duration of 2 hours every week. At the end of each term an assessment will be held, based on the child's performance he/she qualifies for next term. The whole course is spread into 10 terms, with a covering time of 30 months.
